Phone-paid services? What are they?
Basically, 'phone-paid services' (sometimes called premium rate) are products or services that you use your phone to pay for. For example, ringtones and wallpaper downloads, TV voting lines and entering competitions.
The people at PhonepayPlus – the organisation that looks after these services to make sure you get what you've paid for – found out that 37% of 11-17 year olds have used music or video content on their phone in the past six months. However, only one third knew how much they would be charged to download a ringtone, game or other phone-paid service.
Most phone-paid services are run by nice friendly, and honest businesses, giving you what you want for a fair price. But that doesn't mean you can just sit back and think that you can trust everyone – it's important you get to know how to recognise these services and how they are promoted on TV, in magazines, on the internet, everywhere!
